About this spot

Franconia Falls is a granite-slab cascade and pool system on Franconia Brook deep in the Pemigewasset Wilderness, reached by a committed roughly 6.5-mile round-trip, mostly flat hike from the Lincoln Woods trailhead on the Kancamagus Highway — no permit needed, but budget half a day. The slickrock doubles as a natural waterslide, and jumpers use a roughly 10-foot boulder into an 8-foot-deep pool, or a bigger 20-25 foot leap into deeper water. The real hazard is current: sections that look calm hide strong currents that have caused fatalities, so heed the posted warning signs, never jump alone, and check depth first. Best visited midsummer once spring snowmelt has dropped.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
