About this spot
Kinsman Falls sits along the Basin-Cascades Trail in Franconia Notch, about a 15-20 minute walk from the Basin parking area on I-93 in Lincoln. The pool below the cascade runs deep, clear, and comfortably warm by midsummer, and hikers regularly report people cliff jumping into it alongside swimming and sunbathing. The polished granite ledges are slick when wet and the current turns deceptively strong after rain, so check conditions before jumping. Parking is free at the Basin; the trail involves rock scrambles. This is White Mountain National Forest land with no lifeguards—swim and jump at your own risk, especially in high water.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
