About this spot

Glen Ellis Falls is a well-known 64-foot plunge on the Ellis River in Pinkham Notch, reached by a short 0.3-mile round-trip trail (stairs and pavement) from a marked NH-16 parking lot, through an underpass beneath the highway. It sits within the White Mountain National Forest and draws heavy traffic in summer and fall. Swimming and jumping are officially prohibited at the falls - signage states this clearly, and the wet stone stairs and turbulent plunge pool make the rule a real safety measure. A few informal swimming spots exist farther downstream on the Ellis River, but the falls and viewing platforms themselves are look-only. No fee for the roadside lot.
