About this spot
Chikahoki Falls sits on Posts Brook in Norvin Green State Forest near Wanaque, reached by a roughly 1.7-mile hike from the Otter Hole trailhead on Glenwild Avenue in Bloomingdale, descending about 350 feet through forest, or by a longer 4-mile loop over the Highlands and Carris Hill trails. The falls themselves are modest, but multiple hiking guides describe a shallow, easy-to-reach swimming hole at the base that draws visitors on hot summer days. Flow is seasonal, strongest after snowmelt or heavy rain, and can dwindle by late summer. The unmarked approach and mossy rock near the pool are the real hazards here, more so than the drop itself. It sits on public state forest land with no posted swimming ban, but there is no lifeguard or supervision, so conditions should be checked before jumping.
