High Falls is a real hamlet on the Rondout Creek in Ulster County, straddling Marbletown and Rosendale. The namesake falls, reportedly about 30 feet high and 200 feet wide, sit beside the village along County Route 213. Public parking is available near the intersection of Route 213 and Lucas Avenue, an easy walk from the falls and the historic D&H Canal Museum. Swimming and jumping at the main falls is not permitted, though sources describe popular swimming holes and cliff-jumping spots downstream along the creek. Hazards include slippery rock, strong hydraulics near the dam face, and current that varies with rainfall and seasonal releases. Scout any downstream site by swimming to it first.
