About this spot

Lower Catawba Falls is the 205-foot centerpiece of the Catawba Falls Recreation Area in Pisgah National Forest near Old Fort, reached by an easy roughly 1-mile trail from the free trailhead on Catawba Falls Parkway. Visitors report wading and swimming in pools along the river, but the base pool is shallow — about 2 feet at its lowest — making it a wading spot rather than a jump spot. The upper falls and Wildflower Trail remain closed following Hurricane Helene damage, with repairs ongoing, so check current Forest Service status before visiting. No fees are charged, and this is public national forest land, but slick rock near moving water is the hazard that matters most here.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
