About this spot
GPS Falls (also referenced as Greasy Cove Prong Falls) is a roughly 40 ft cascading waterfall on Greasy Cove Prong in the Shining Rock Wilderness area of Pisgah National Forest near Canton, NC. The name comes from waterfall guidebook author Kevin Adams losing a handheld GPS unit in the pool at its base. There is a small plunge pool but no maintained trail, parking, or facilities — access is a remote off-trail bushwhack alongside the other Greasy Cove Prong falls. No documented swimming or jumping culture beyond the existence of the pool itself; treat this as an unmonitored wilderness feature.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
