About this spot
Cashiers Sliding Rock is a natural rock slide on the headwaters of the Chattooga River, about 4.7 miles south of the Cashiers crossroads via NC-107 and Whiteside Cove Road, with roadside pull-off parking and a short trail to the water. The river glides over a roughly 10-foot rock face into a sand-bottomed pool about 6 feet deep, and mid-slide potholes let older kids and adults cautiously jump in, while younger kids stick to the trail-side edge. It's a free, no-fee local swimming hole, busiest on hot summer afternoons. The rock gets slick with algae, the potholes carry real ankle and head-strike risk if misjudged, and flow and depth vary a lot after rain, so check conditions before sliding or jumping.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
