About this spot
Ranger Falls is a roughly 30-foot cascade on Skitty Creek inside the Cliffside Lake Recreation Area of Nantahala National Forest, between Highlands and Franklin. Reach it via the Ranger Falls Interpretive Trail from the fee-based day-use parking area, descending about 0.3 mile to the creek (a second trailhead exists off Flat Mountain Road). Flow varies seasonally from a trickle to a strong cascade after rain. It's maintained and photographed as a scenic stop rather than a swimming hole — no documented pool, jumping, or swim culture.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
