About this spot
Hazel Creek Cascades is a series of 30-ft cascades on the upper reaches of Hazel Creek inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, reached only via a strenuous ~16.5-mile round-trip hike from the Kuwohi (Clingmans Dome) area. This is deep backcountry, not a roadside stop: no cell signal, stream crossings, and rapidly changing weather near the crest. No cliff-jumping or established swimming-hole culture is documented here — trip reports describe it as a scenic but modest turnaround point, not a plunge pool. Treat any wading as backcountry stream access, not a jump spot, and check current NPS trail conditions before attempting the hike.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
