About this spot
Law enforcement has increased patrols and citations for unauthorized entry as of mid-2009. A brief visit may result in a warning if posted signage is inadequate, but plan to minimize time on-site and remove all traces of your visit. The quarry sits out of view from public roads, so park your vehicle at a considerable distance. If questioned by authorities, claim you learned about the location from an acquaintance rather than online sources. From Lancaster, PA, travel south on Route 272 through Willow Street toward Buck. At the junction where Route 372 intersects Route 272 (marked by a flashing yellow light), turn right onto Route 372. Continue on Route 372 until it terminates at Route 74, then turn left onto Route 74 south/Delta Road. After roughly one mile, Route 74 curves and Paper Mill Road becomes visible on your left. Stay on Route 74 and make your third left turn past Paper Mill Road onto Pike's Peak Road, a dirt road resembling a private driveway that can be difficult to locate. Follow Pike's Peak Road to its end, passing through one stop sign at Lay Road. At the intersection with Atom Road, the road forks—bear left onto Atom Road. The quarry entrance lies approximately half a mile along Atom Road on the right side, marked by concrete blocks displaying no trespassing warnings. A small dirt trail immediately follows, extending several hundred yards and requiring high-clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicles. The quarry itself spans roughly 0.8 miles but contains only one safe jump location. Swimming approximately 100 yards across the water is necessary to reach the rock face. The primary jump, informally called "Balls" and marked with corresponding graffiti, was previously measured at 65 feet, though current water levels place it between 55 and 60 feet. Additional jumps ranging to about 30 feet exist at various points along the climb. Avoid all other rock faces due to underwater beaches created by rising water levels, which pose serious injury risks.
