About this spot

The Cliff Walk is Newport, Rhode Island's famous 3.5-mile public trail along the Gilded Age mansions, with free access from multiple points (Memorial Blvd, Narragansett Ave, Ledge Rd) and no permit required. Rocky ledges along the route drop roughly 10-40 feet to the Atlantic in places, and a few informal jump spots exist south of Ledge Road. Conditions are unpredictable — rogue waves, submerged rocks, and strong currents have swept people off the rocks, and storm erosion regularly closes sections (check newportri.gov before going). The city posts explicit STEEP CLIFFS / HIGH RISK OF INJURY warnings along the walk; swimming and jumping are strongly discouraged and unsupervised.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
