About this spot

This jump spot sits along Newport's Cliff Walk, on rocky shoreline just before the gate to Rough Point (680 Bellevue Avenue), Doris Duke's former estate, now a museum. The jump-worthy rock face reaches roughly 30 feet, with smaller ledges nearby, beside a distinctive rock outcrop visible just offshore. Depth is reportedly good but unconfirmed - check on site; a climb back up is possible along the rocks nearby. The Cliff Walk is a public, federally recognized trail, but jumping here is not sanctioned, and the surrounding mansion grounds are private property, so stay off posted lawns. Surf and sharp rock are the main hazards; a storm-damaged stretch of the Walk near Narragansett Avenue has closed in recent years, so check trail conditions before visiting.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
