About this spot
Greeter Falls sits in South Cumberland State Park's Savage Gulf area near Altamont, Tennessee, a 1.5-mile moderate hike featuring a spiral metal staircase down to the lower falls and its clear aqua "Blue Hole" pool. The 50-foot falls and pool are one of Middle Tennessee's most visited swimming holes, and despite signage and rangers prohibiting jumping, hikers and online trip reports consistently describe people leaping from the surrounding rocks. There are no lifeguards, submerged rocks can be hidden by runoff, and the staircase and approach get slick when wet. Parking is free at the South Cumberland trailhead lot off TN-56; no entrance fee. Expect crowds on summer weekends and check flow after heavy rain before swimming.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
