About this spot
Ranger Falls is a remote waterfall deep in Big Creek Gulf, part of Savage Gulf State Natural Area near Gruetli-Laager, TN, reached only by a demanding ~7-mile round trip hike. Unusually, under normal flow it has no plunge pool at all — essentially all of its water disappears into an underground sink below the falls, so there is nothing to swim or jump into most of the time. Tennessee State Parks also bans climbing or jumping from any waterfall or bluff parkwide. Real and well documented as a backcountry hiking destination, but not a swimming-hole style spot.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
