About this spot
Savage Falls is a 30-foot drop into a plunge pool ("blue hole") on Savage Creek in Savage Gulf State Natural Area near Palmer, TN, reached by an easy 1.8-mile hike from the Savage Day Loop trailhead. It's one of the most popular swimming holes in the South Cumberland park system, drawing crowds on summer weekends, with a backcountry campground a short walk away for overnight stays (reservation required, small fee). Posted signs warn that submerged rocks beneath the falls make the pool dangerous, and Tennessee State Parks prohibits climbing or jumping from any waterfall or bluff in the park, so treat this as a swim-and-wade spot, not a jump spot, despite its popularity.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
