About this spot

Foster Falls sits in the Foster Falls Recreation Area of South Cumberland State Park near Sequatchie and Tracy City, just off US-41 about 45 minutes from Chattanooga. A short, steep 0.3-mile trail with stairs and switchbacks drops from the parking lot to the base, where the 60-foot plunge pours into a deep gorge pool. Pool depth shifts with rainfall and season, running clearest and fullest after rain. Cliff jumping from spots around the pool has become a well-known local pastime drawing dozens of jumpers each year, alongside climbers working the 150-plus sandstone routes above the gorge. Hazards include slick rock, submerged ledges at low water, and summer crowds. Jumping is not officially sanctioned by the park, so scout water depth yourself and treat any leap as at your own risk.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
