About this spot
Causey Reservoir sits on the South Fork Ogden River about 15 minutes east of Huntsville, reached via a gravel road along Skull Crack Canyon; access is by hiking, kayak, or paddleboard, since motorized boats are banned. The south and east arms hold the reservoir's best-known jumping rocks, used casually by paddlers and hikers all summer per YouTube footage, local trip reports, and cliff-jumping meetups. The water is deep -- up to 182 feet in the main basin -- and cold even in July, and a 2025 drowning during a cliff-jumping search underscores the risk of cold-shock and misjudged depth. Utah law requires a life jacket for anyone in the water here, swimming or paddling alike; there is no lifeguard on duty.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
