Toquerville Falls is a tiered travertine waterfall and swimming hole in the red-rock desert north of St. George, reached via a rough 6-mile dirt road off I-15 that takes most vehicles 30-45 minutes; high clearance or 4x4 is strongly recommended. The tiers create pools ranging from shin-deep upper pools good for kids to deeper lower pools where locals cliff jump from the surrounding ledges. The real hazard: the surrounding rock is brittle and often coated in slick moss, and falls from the ledges have caused serious injuries, including at least one life-flight evacuation. Always confirm pool depth from above before jumping and never dive headfirst. Public BLM-area access, open year-round, best after spring runoff has filled the pools.
