About this spot
Bingham Falls is a well-known roadside swimming hole in Mt. Mansfield State Forest, on VT-108 between Stowe and Jeffersonville. Look for an unmarked gravel pull-off just before the road crosses the stream; a flat, unmarked path drops about a quarter mile to the falls. A 40-foot cascade empties into a narrow gorge with deep teal pools good for swimming, and locals do cliff jump around the rocks. The real hazard is upstream: one pool above the falls funnels into a fast, narrow vortex that has caused fatal accidents, so never swim above the falls, and the rocks throughout are slick. No fees; parking is limited and fills early on summer weekends.
