About this spot
The jumps at this location are modest in height, though the hike itself is rewarding with multiple swimming holes and natural water slides. To reach the trailhead from Route 29, turn onto Hoover Road (right if traveling south, left if heading north). Continue for 9.4 miles until you reach a T intersection, then turn right onto VA 231N for 0.6 miles. Make your first left onto VA 670/Old Blue Ridge Turnpike and follow it for 3.6 miles. Turn right onto State Route 643, which is marked with White Oak Canyon signs. Route 643 becomes Weakley Hollow Road, and after approximately 4 miles you'll find the parking area for White Oak Canyon on your left. A parking fee is typically required on weekends. The trail to the primary and most visited swimming hole spans about 1.5 to 2 miles. Begin on the White Oak Canyon Trail from the parking area. After roughly a quarter mile, Cedar Run Trail branches off to the left—take this route. The swimming hole appears on your right with notably clear and deep water, making it the largest on the trail. Continuing further up yields additional swimming holes and slides. This particular location tends to see fewer visitors since most hikers choose White Oak Canyon instead, which features attractive slides and waterfalls but lacks jumping opportunities.
