Firehole River, Yellowstone. This activity is prohibited and carries a $250 fine if caught by park rangers. Access the location from Madison by driving approximately 2 miles south on the Grand Loop Road, then turning right onto Firehole Canyon Drive (a one-way road) and continuing to the swim area parking. Alternatively, from Old Faithful, head about 14 miles north on the western portion of the lower loop to the Firehole Canyon Drive turnoff, then turn left onto the one-way road to reach parking. Ranger patrols are active in the area and enforcement is regular.
