About this spot
Bull Pen is West Clear Creek's day-use swimming hole, reached via Bull Pen Road (FR 618) about 30 minutes from Camp Verde: a 5-mile dirt road plus a flat two-thirds-mile walk to the water. Red-rock bluffs frame a shaded pool with a shallow beach entry that steps down to 5-6 feet before dropping off near the main rock formation, which offers jumps from a couple feet up to about 15-20 feet across several stacked ledges. No permit is required, and the remote access keeps crowds light. Water levels and clarity shift with runoff and monsoon season, so scout current depth before jumping and expect the creek to run high or muddy after rain.
