About this spot

Canyon Lake's main cliff-jumping area centers on the Boulder Recreation Site, on the lake's south shore about 15 miles northeast of Apache Junction via the Apache Trail (SR-88) in Tonto National Forest; a Tonto Day Pass ($8) is required to park. From the site's beach, swimmers and paddlers head toward canyon-wall rock formations where documented jumps run roughly 45 to 90 feet depending on the ledge, plus smaller rope-swing spots toward La Barge Creek. No motorized boats are allowed in the adjacent canyon, and no lifeguards patrol the lake. Reservoir levels fluctuate and expose rocks not visible at full pool, so scout the landing every visit. Note: the lake is slated to close for roughly 16 weeks starting September 16, 2026 for maintenance.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
