About this spot

Hatchet Creek Falls (also called Lion Slide Falls) is an unofficial swimming hole on Hatchet Creek off Big Bend Road, about 34 miles east of Redding via Highway 299 near Montgomery Creek. The submitted pin sat about 3 miles off, on a forest road with no water feature; the corrected coordinate lands directly on the falls. The falls aren't marked or visible from the road; a short unmarked scramble from a roadside pull-off reaches the pool. A fallen tree beside the cascade forms an informal stairway to jump points reported up to 45-55 feet, plus smaller options. There are no lifeguards or signage—scout every jump point yourself, especially early season when flow runs higher and colder.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
