Edwards Crossing is a South Yuba River swimming and cliff-jumping spot beside the single-lane, 1904 arch-truss Edwards Crossing Bridge, off Highway 49 and North Bloomfield Road northeast of Nevada City. A short hike of about half a mile reaches crystal-clear pools around 20 feet deep; the best jumping pool, with the biggest rocks, is a short scramble or swim upstream from the main beach. Granite slabs offer multiple jump heights into the canyon's deep, clear pools. The river carries significant current and stays cold well into summer, and conditions can change quickly with snowmelt or upstream releases. There's no documented jumping prohibition, but guides consistently warn: confirm depth before every jump, never dive, and never swim alone given the current.
