About this spot
This pin sits at Bridgeport in South Yuba River State Park, home of the 1862 Bridgeport Covered Bridge spanning the South Yuba River near Penn Valley. The park offers swimming and river access with parking at the North and South lots; loaner life jackets are available seasonally. Nearby stretches of the South Yuba, including the popular Highway 49 crossing upstream, have reported cliffs up to 40-50 feet, caves, and natural hot springs, but the river is notoriously dangerous—strong currents and cold water contribute to drownings most years. Never jump without checking depth and current first, avoid swimming alone, and expect parking to fill by mid-morning on summer weekends.
