About this spot

Devil's Punchbowl sits on the Roaring Fork River along Independence Pass Road (CO-82), about nine miles east of Aspen just past mile marker 50. There's no sign - watch for an unmarked pullout on the left (heading from Aspen) and a short scramble down granite slabs to the pool. Jumps run roughly 15-25 feet off various ledges, with jumpers reporting higher perches near 40 feet; heights and footing vary by rock chosen. The water is cold snowmelt runoff and the river current can be strong and unpredictable, with slick, mossy rock around the pool edge. Neither the Forest Service nor local law enforcement condones jumping here, and there's no lifeguard - broken bones from bad landings have been reported.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
