About this spot

Canyon Falls, on the Sturgeon River about 8 miles south of L'Anse, is a scenic slate box canyon sometimes called "Michigan's Grand Canyon." Park at the roadside park lot off US-41 and follow a short, roughly 10-minute trail to the falls, with side paths onto the layered rock edges. One narrow chute pours into a popular cliff-jumping pool, with several smaller drops (roughly 6-30 feet) along the half-mile canyon. Current and depth shift with rain and snowmelt, so check the pool before jumping and mind slick, uneven rock underfoot near the edges. Part of a Michigan state roadside park; no fee.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
