About this spot
Salmon River Falls is a dramatic 110-foot ledge waterfall in the DEC's Salmon River Falls Unique Area near Altmar, in Oswego County. From Pulaski, take Route 13 to Altmar, turn onto County Route 22 (Cemetery Street), continue about 4 miles past the reservoir, then follow the signed Falls Road roughly 1.5 miles to free parking, open year-round from sunrise to sunset. A short trail reaches overlooks; a steeper Gorge Trail with stairs descends to the base but is demanding. DEC explicitly prohibits swimming, wading, and jumping in the plunge pool, and bars approach within 15 feet of any cliff edge, citing loose rock and a genuinely hazardous gorge. The Gorge and River Bed trails close seasonally, mid-November through April, for safety.
