About this spot

This swimming hole lies on the Boquet River along Route 73, about 1.3 miles west of the NY-9/NY-73 junction near New Russia and Elizabethtown. From I-87 exit 30, follow Route 73 to a pull-off just past a concrete bridge over the river. A pool lines both banks with ledges for jumping; some guides cite jumps to 35-40 feet, others report a lower ledge closer to 20 feet, so scout before committing. This stretch is separate from the more famous Split Rock Falls a few miles south on Route 9, which shares the same river's reputation for cold water, slippery rock, and past fatalities. Swim any landing zone first and expect crowds on summer weekends.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
