About this spot
Split Rock Falls sits right off US-9 near New Russia, NY, in the Adirondacks, with parking within about 10 feet of the falls, among the easiest access of any Adirondack waterfall. The Bouquet River drops through two tiers, a roughly 30-foot upper cascade and a 40-foot lower plunge separated by a mid-level pool; the lower pool, about 8 feet deep, is the main jumping spot. Granite and slate ledges make for a popular but genuinely dangerous jump: the site is deceptive, currents shift with flow, and it has a history of serious injuries and fatalities. Avoid jumping during high flow after rain, confirm depth before every jump from this specific ledge, and never jump alone or at night.
