About this spot
East Fork Falls is an easily reached, roughly 12-18 foot waterfall in Headwaters State Forest, just off East Fork Road south of Brevard, NC (near 5500 East Fork Rd). A short, well-worn trail marked by a blue trash can at the pull-off leads a few hundred feet to a large pool at the base, where local guides and a newspaper feature (Transylvania Times, Pilot Cove, Romantic Asheville) document regular summer swimming. The hazard that matters: a spur trail reaches the top of the falls, but entering the water above the drop is dangerous, and even the safer base pool has jagged, slippery submerged rocks. It sits on public NC State Forest land with free day-use access and no permits required.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
