About this spot
Dark Prong Falls is a roughly 45 ft waterfall in the Shining Rock Wilderness area of Pisgah National Forest, on Dark Prong below Ivestor Ridge, near the Blue Ridge Parkway's Graveyard Fields/Yellowstone Prong area near Canton, NC. There is no maintained trail — access is via off-trail hiking and creek-walking from the Bridges Camp Gap area, a long, arduous day (canyoneering references list technical descents on this drainage). No parking beyond Parkway pull-offs, no facilities. No documented swimming or jumping culture; this is a wilderness bushwhack/canyoneering objective, not a known swim spot.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
