About this spot

Big Ledge Falls is a documented 20-foot sheer drop on the Whitewater River near Cashiers, one of six named falls on a difficult, largely off-trail hike along the river. A fallen tree currently obstructs the best view. No source documents swimming or jumping at this specific drop, though the river hosts pools elsewhere in the sequence. Reaching it requires unmarked scrambling, rope-assisted sections, and stream crossings that are dangerous in high water; trekking poles and low flow are recommended. Land access runs through Nantahala National Forest with a stretch of private Heady Mountain community frontage.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
