About this spot
High Falls is a roughly 16-foot drop on the South Fork Mills River in Pisgah National Forest, reached via a moderate 4-mile round-trip hike from the Wolf Ford Road trailhead (a locked gate at Funneltop Mountain Road adds about 1.4 miles). Multiple independent hiking guides describe a genuine swimming hole at its base with a deep plunge pool and flat rocks for sunning, passing Billy Branch Falls en route with several stream crossings. Depth and flow vary with rainfall and season, and submerged rocks are a real hazard, so scout carefully before jumping. It sits on public National Forest land with no lifeguard or signage. Best visited March through November; expect wet feet and slick rocks on the approach.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
