About this spot

Lauren Falls is the farthest and most dramatic of four falls (Balsam, Lower Balsam, Patricia, Lauren) reached via the Mallonee Trail from Balsam Lake Recreation Area in Nantahala National Forest (Charleys Creek Rd off NC 215, near Rosman; no fee). Past Lower Balsam Falls the route is unmaintained bushwhacking to a roughly 40-foot vertical brink above a deep, rock-sculpted pool. Trail reports call this final stretch the hike's most difficult and hazardous section. No swimming or jumping culture is documented; sourcing is limited to waterfall-hiking guides, not swim-hole reports.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
