About this spot

Schoolhouse Falls is the most-visited waterfall in Panthertown Valley, Nantahala National Forest, reached by an easy 2.5-mile round trip from the Cold Mountain Gap trailhead. Greenland Creek drops about 20 feet over a curved rock lip into a wide, shallow pool that stays busy with waders and swimmers all summer; you can also walk behind the sheet of falling water. The Forest Service explicitly warns against climbing, standing on, or jumping from the ledge above the falls, since the rock stays slick and the current picks up fast after rain, and people have been hurt ignoring that. It's free, public land with no permit required, but expect crowds, limited parking, and no facilities at the trailhead.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
