About this spot
Warden Falls sits along the headwaters of the Tuckasegee River in Panthertown Valley, Nantahala National Forest. Access is via the Cold Mountain Road trailhead and the Devil's Elbow Trail; an unmarked side path, flagged with orange tape, branches off about a tenth of a mile past the powerlines. It's the first stop on the popular "Tuckasegee Trio" hike with Jawbone and Riding Ford Falls, roughly 4.5 miles round trip. Multiple independent trip reports describe hikers wading and swimming in the pools below the falls on summer weekends. Rocks stay slick even when dry, the side trail is unofficial with stream crossings, and cell service is thin. This is public national-forest land with no fee, but regional trails took heavy storm damage from Hurricane Helene in 2024 — confirm current conditions with Friends of Panthertown before visiting.
