About this spot
Eagle Falls drops about 25 feet into a large granite-bedrock pool on the South Fork Skykomish River, just off US-2 near a marked pullout around milepost 38-39 between Gold Bar and Index, with a short path down from the highway shoulder. Cliffs above the pool reach roughly 60 feet, and a rope swing is often rigged nearby; summer weekends draw heavy crowds. This is one of the more dangerous informal swimming holes in Washington: multiple people have drowned here over the years, current near the base of the falls can be strong and unpredictable, and water levels change quickly with snowmelt and upstream flow. Jumping isn't officially banned, but rangers and local guides strongly discourage it without experienced spotters.
