Noccalula Falls is a 90-foot waterfall inside a 250-acre city park in Gadsden, Alabama, famous for the legend of a Cherokee woman who leapt to her death here rather than accept an arranged marriage, marked today by a bronze statue at the brink. The Gorge Trail (about 0.6 miles, paved then dirt and mud) drops to a pool at the base where people do swim and wade, despite a city ordinance that explicitly bans swimming and wading below the falls; enforcement is inconsistent. The danger is real: park officials have logged at least two drowning deaths in roughly the past twelve years, and flow is unregulated, so depth and current shift fast after rain. Jumping from the falls themselves is not documented or advisable; this is a swim/wade spot, not a cliff-jump site.
