About this spot

Little River Falls sits inside Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne/Mentone, Alabama, right off AL-35 with a paved overlook and boardwalk steps from the parking lot. The 45-foot falls drops into a wide blue-green pool that draws heavy summer crowds for swimming and cliff jumping; visitors commonly cross the boardwalk railing to reach launch points above the main pool. Water levels and current strength swing sharply with recent rain, and submerged rocks lurk in parts of the landing zone, so check depth before jumping. Jumping from the lower falls downstream is explicitly prohibited by the National Preserve. Viewing is free; the paved lot fills fast on summer weekends. Documented across official state tourism sites, canyon guides, and CliffScout's own Alabama coverage.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
