About this spot
Hippie Hole - also known locally as Martha's Falls - is an emerald swimming hole inside Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne, Alabama (the listing's Gaylesville tag is off; that town is well downstream). Direct parking at Hippie Hole has been closed since 2020, so visitors park at the Little River Falls lot and walk about a mile of trail down into the canyon. Sandstone cliffs around the pool reach roughly 30 feet, with multiple ledges used for jumping and diving into water fed by the falls above. As National Preserve land, swimming and jumping here are permitted, unlike many managed sites. Rock gets slick after rain, so watch footing near the edge, and check the Preserve's site for current trail status.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
