About this spot
Travel north on AZ-87 from Gilbert and Phoenix toward Winslow. Before reaching Winslow, look for an eastbound turnoff to McHood Park. Drive approximately seven miles on this road until you reach a bridge crossing the creek. Continue past the bridge, then turn right. Within the next 1/8 to 1/4 mile, find suitable parking and make your way down to the creek. Local residents can direct you to the jumping areas known as "crown" and "dinosaur," which are situated near "flat rock." The cliff formations extend considerably in both directions, making the sites relatively easy to locate on your own.
Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
