About this spot
Spruce Brook Falls is a chain of cascades in Naugatuck State Forest, Beacon Falls — a 15-foot plunge on the main brook and a 40-foot drop on a tributary, with several smaller falls between moss-covered boulders. Park at the lot at 292 Cold Springs Road and hike about a quarter-mile in; Spruce Brook Road itself has been closed since April 2025 after a dispute with an adjacent shooting range, cutting off some trailheads, though the Cold Springs Road approach still works. Multiple stone-lined pools along the brook are popular local swimming holes, with visitors piling rocks into small dams to deepen them. Slick moss-covered rock and fast-rising water after storms are the real hazards. Free, no permits, busiest on summer weekends.
