Roaring Brook Falls is Connecticut's tallest single-drop waterfall at 80 feet, tumbling over a wooded ledge on West Mountain in a natural area jointly preserved by the Town of Cheshire and the Cheshire Land Trust since 1978. A short, moderate 1.3-mile trail from the Roaring Brook Road parking lot climbs about 375 feet to an overlook, with a genuine swimming hole at the base that draws crowds in summer. The rock is steep and notoriously slick near the brink; officials warn of serious injury or worse for anyone who loses footing above the falls, so treat the top as strictly off-limits. Flow peaks after rain or spring snowmelt and can run low by late summer. No entrance fee; the small lot fills early on weekends.
