About this spot
Indian Well Falls is the centerpiece of Indian Well State Park, a 153-acre Connecticut DEEP park on the Housatonic River in Shelton. A short, easy 5-to-10-minute walk leads to the 15-foot horsetail falls, which drops into a rock-rimmed splash pool inside a small gorge — good for wading and casual small jumps rather than big cliff drops. The park's main draw is its sandy Housatonic River swimming beach, lifeguarded in summer, plus picnic groves and the Paugussett Trail. Parking is free for Connecticut-registered vehicles under the Passport to the Parks program; non-residents pay a seasonal daily fee. Open 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. The Housatonic carries a mild current and boat traffic nearby, so swim only in the designated, lifeguarded beach area, not the open river.
