About this spot
Sages Ravine Falls sits along the Appalachian Trail corridor in Mount Washington State Forest, reached by a roughly 1.7-mile hike from the AMC trailhead on Mt. Washington/East Road, passing the Sages Ravine backcountry campsite. The ravine's brook drops through a mile-long chain of hemlock-shaded cascades, this one an approximately 10-15 foot horsetail feeding a deep, rock-rimmed pool rated a good natural swimming hole by regional waterfall guides. Water is cold mountain runoff, clearest and fullest in spring; flow drops significantly by late summer. The real hazard is the ravine itself: wet rock, steep scrambles between pools, and remoteness from any road access, so a slip means a long carry-out. No swim ban is documented on this public state-forest/AT land, but avoid entering pools directly above the drop and scout depth before jumping.
