About this spot

Race Brook Falls sits on Race Brook Trail in Mount Everett State Reservation, reached via a roadside pull-off on South Undermountain Road (Route 41) in Sheffield. This pin marks the Lower Falls, about two-thirds of a mile in on a gently graded then descending trail — despite the old 'Upper Falls' label, the true Upper Falls lies roughly 1.5 miles further up a steep climb. The lower tier drops over granite ledges into a pool locals use for a cold dip in summer; slick wet rock is the main hazard, and currents rise fast after rain. No fees or permits, open year-round but icy in winter. Middle and Upper Falls are separate hikes worth the extra distance.

Safety first. Cliff jumping is inherently dangerous and can cause serious injury or death. Conditions — water depth, submerged hazards, and access — change constantly. CliffScout is community-sourced reference information, not a guarantee a spot is safe. Always assess the conditions yourself before jumping, and never jump where you're unsure. You assume all risk.
