About this spot
Garfield Falls is a roughly 40-foot cascade on the East Branch of the Dead Diamond River in the remote Connecticut Lakes region of far-northern New Hampshire. From a state trailhead with a kiosk and restrooms, an easy 0.2-1 mile walk leads to a rocky pool at the base that's a well-documented summer swimming and picnic stop, with reviews and guides spanning years. Getting there means miles of unpaved, sometimes rough gravel road off Route 3 - high clearance is recommended, and cell service is essentially nonexistent this far north, which is the real hazard if anything goes wrong. The pool can hold leeches in warmer months and flow swings sharply with season, strongest in spring. No fees; open public access, best April through October.
